Batman Heli Banner Stunt

After an extensive flight campaign around Sydney, Melbourne, and the Gold Coast promoting the release of Batman with a helicopter banner, we were asked if there was anything else we could do with it for the State of Origin halftime show at Olympic Park.

Our answer? Absolutely.

We designed a giant “coat hanger” frame made from aluminium bars and connectors, with six connection points leading to a central attachment point. This allowed us to suspend the banner perfectly. The 45-metre-long Batman helicopter banner was rolled up into a large tube, ready for its stadium debut.

At halftime, twelve crew members carried the tube onto the field. Above the stadium, a large twin-engine BK117 helicopter appeared, hovering steadily before lowering a cable into the arena. The sight of that aircraft poised 30 metres above the ground was nothing short of spectacular.

The cable was attached, and the helicopter began to climb—slowly revealing the massive 1,500-square-metre Batman banner to the roaring crowd. Two droplines were fixed to the banner’s lower corners, allowing our team to rotate it a full 360 degrees one way, then back the other, giving every corner of the stadium a perfect view. Once the display was complete, the helicopter lowered the banner back down, disconnected the cable, and our crew gathered the banner and frame before marching off the field.

This was the first time a helicopter banner had ever been used for such a stunt—and it went off without a hitch. Weeks of planning, design, and testing had gone into making it possible.

The result? An unforgettable spectacle that left the crowd in awe.
